DESCRIPTION OF CAPABILITIES
Each room can be divided in halves or quarters. There are a total of 44 computers in each room; each quadrant has 11 computers. There is space enough to put two chairs at each computer, if so desired. Whiteboards, flipcharts, and a dual VCR/DVD deck are also available.
POLICY FOR USE
These rooms may not be used between the hours of 11:00 PM and 7:00 AM.
No food or drink is allowed in or near these rooms.
Regular classroom use: Up to 22 computers (half) of each of these rooms may be scheduled for a regular weekly meeting time for a class. Since very few classes require the computers for all sessions and in order to make the rooms available to as many different classes as possible, we will typically allow people to sign up for only one class per week.
For regularly scheduled classes for the Fall, Winter and Spring/Summer terms, we will announce the rooms' availability in June, October and January respectively, to gather applications all at once. At that point, we will make decisions about conflicting requests based on appropriateness of use and balance across all campus constituents. After this application deadline has passed, the rooms will be open to other class requests on a first-come-first-served basis. Once the term begins, both halves of the rooms are open to requests for all types of events on a first-come-first-served basis.
Single session labs, or workshops: The remaining 22 workstations of each room can be reserved for other sessions such as single classes, workshops, or special short-term concentrated training sessions. Once the regular class sessions are established for the semester, if there is no class scheduled, the special event may use all 44 workstations.
If the rooms are scheduled for faculty or GSI lab hours, these may be bumped in favor of other events on short notice. Other events, including classes and special events, may not be bumped once scheduled.
These rooms are intended for hands-on computer learning; they are not intended for use as standard conference rooms.
For reservations and setup: dc-scheduling@umich.edu 763-3266
For available software, room use training, or software load and testing: dc-techsupport@umich.edu 763-5041.
Due to time constraints and the potential risk posed by adding new software to the existing load set, we are not able to accept special software installation requests. Rare exceptions for adding new software or a different version of existing software may be made.
All instructors are required to be trained in the use of the room. This session will be scheduled at the time the reservations are made. Rooms requiring any special set-up need at least 48-hour advance notice. No staff support is currently available on weekends.
For room access, the staff at the Duderstadt Center 1st floor Information Desk can lend the key after confirming the reservation. Signout of the key will require a Driver's License or UM ID card, which is held until the key is returned. Lost keys will result in replacement and rekeying costs.
