Our Anniversary Week Celebration has wrapped up – but we have more stories, images and events coming throughout the 2021-2022 academic year. You’ll see them featured on our homepage, and then they will be archived in this mini-site.

October 4th through October 8th, 2021
Celebrate our 25th Anniversary with a week of open houses, live demos, films, exhibits, and more!
The James and Anne Duderstadt Center opened in Fall Semester 1996. We’re marking the 25th anniversary of this unique facility with a look back at the remarkable creativity and innovation that has taken place here, and a special invitation to you to see what it can mean for your academic future.
(Some event times are subject to change – daily updates will be posted here)
Anniversary Week Events You Don’t Want to Miss
Don’t miss the exhibits and photos on display in The Gallery, Connector Hall, Central Collaboration Area (1st Floor) and other areas (everyday!)
Also in the Gallery: A walkup XR headset experience “Augmented Tectonics”

See how Architecture students are using XR experiences to simulate hands-on work with building materials to supplement site visits to actual construction projects. Daily, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Gallery (Rm 1019).
Participate in a live studio recording session in the Audio Studio A Control Room (RSVP required)

Audio Studio A is one of the most advanced professional-grade tracking and recording studios at any university in the U.S. It serves as both the learning environment and the multimedia “publishing” platform for course work, thesis performances, and graduate and faculty research in the performance arts.
“Fusion band” session – Fri. Oct. 8, noon to 3:30 p.m. Info and RSVP
Get hands-on with 3D technologies that let you scan, print or cut the 3D objects of your wildest imaginings, or your next assignment.
The Fabrication Studio is open for drop-in tours 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, October 4th through the 8th (Room 1365). Check out the 3D printers, CNC machines, electronics fabrication workstations, and other tools you can use for your next project (like the one that’s due tomorrow).
Speaking of hands-on technologies – what could be more engaging than rediscovering the tools that first launched the information revolution?

AAEL’s Book Arts Studio (Rm 2397) offers access to and guidance in experimenting with hand set type, letterpress printing machines, and other bookmaking skills. Resources include more than 150 drawers of metal and wooden type, several hundred pictorial ornaments and four working presses. Get ink on your hands:
- Friday, October 8th,
1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
What is the difference between a VR headset and full body immersive 3D experience?

The Visualization Studio is home to the latest XR/AR/VR development tools and gear. It’s also the home of one of the earliest 3D immersive VR environments, still in demand for research and course projects: the MIDEN. Tours and demos: 11.a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday, October 4th through the 8th (Visualization Studio: Room 1405).
