BEYOND THE DUDERSTADT CENTER

Sometimes our resources and expertise are needed beyond the Duderstadt Center. When Stamps School of Art Professor Melanie Manos needed a super projector and a collaborator with unique qualifications for a large-scale projection project, she connected with Converging Technologies Consultant Tom Bray.

The resulting project Sky Eye was cast from the U‑M Detroit Observatory on central campus in October. Using a 10,000 lumens, 100 lb. projector the video was projected from the roof of Alice Lloyd Hall onto the Observatory dome. Manos created Sky Eye for her ongoing project “HerView”. Manos recorded U‑M female/femme Astrophysics and Stamps students, whose eyes were used for the projection. Manos has been a frequent user of the Duderstadt Center’s spaces and resources.

Sky Eye was part of the University of Michigan Museum of Art’s Memory & Monuments Symposium and was funded in part by the Arts Initiative.
