The University of Michigan’s Duderstadt Center Studio Production staff and students have been nominated for the 2026 Michigan Chapter Emmy Awards for their outstanding work on How Do We Begin, a 49 minute film by the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching Players (CRLT Players). The Duderstadt staff and students are nominated for three separate categories, each for their work on the same project. Full-time staff Catherine Miller with 2026 BFA graduate Coltrane Gilman are nominated together for Editor for Long Form Content (longer than 10 minutes). Miller is nominated again for her work as a Photographer for Long Form Content (longer than 10 minutes), together this time with full-time staff Patterson McKinney. Finally, 2026 BFA graduate Renata Schmult is nominated for her work on Audio Recording, Mixing and Design.
How Do We Begin highlights the University’s historical tensions with racial discrimination. For the project, CRLT is also nominated for three separate categories, including: Education/Schools, Writer for Long Form Content (longer than 10 minutes), and Director for Long Form Content (longer than 10 minutes; Post-Produced).
The 2026 Michigan Chapter Emmy Awards will take place June 13th at the Fillmore Detroit, in Detroit, Michigan.
