The DMC’s Emerging Technologies Group and Media & Studio Arts Group have co-developed a powerful new platform, using the powerful rendering capabilities of industry-leading Unreal Engine, enabling students, faculty, and staff to create advanced photo-real 3D virtual environments for a new generation of learning, instructional, and research applications.
The two teams collaborated throughout the 2022-23 academic year to develop an integrated production pipeline of computational hardware and software, video, audio, and lighting systems, performance spaces and recording capability, best practices, and professional support systems. The result is an end-to-end development and production environment that supports users who may have little or no prior experience in 3D/VR projects.
Several courses and student projects have already used these new capabilities in their academic work, enabling the ETG and MSA teams to production proof both the systems and their support skills.
For an introduction, watch “Welcome to Virtual Production.” Then imagine what this could mean for YOUR project, course, or research!
